What’s New With Google Penguin Update?
In April 2012, Google has launched Penguin Update to catch websites that are deemed to spam the search results. To be in particular, to be able to catch those that buy links or get them via link networks mainly designed to boost the rankings of the website. This update is aimed to decrease website as well as web pages rankings that are using black hat SEO techniques.
Needless to say, different pages have a different site ranking that’s given by Google to them. This page rank is determining the frequency of their appearance on search results supposed that they’re related to search keyword that’s used by people. A simple example of this is when a user is using Google to search for watches and jewelry and it happens that you are on that market, then you will be given with higher page ranking when compared to those that are not, which puts you on 1st or 2nd pages of search results.
With the use of different SEO techniques, website owners can manipulate results, which allows them to acquire higher page ranking and make their page appear on first page of search results. On the other hand, with the launch of Google Penguin update, those who are using black hat SEO techniques like cloaking, keyword stuffing and the likes will be given with lower page ranking and penalized, which brings them in a disadvantageous position. Websites that are using SEO techniques which Google allows on the other hand won’t be affected much by this update.
The update is beneficial to website owners that are not using forbidden SEO techniques and instead, using legit or white hat SEO that are permitted by Google. This is increasing their page ranking a lot while generating more customers in the process since their websites are likely to appear on top of search results pages.
Also, the update is beneficial for the users who depend largely on the internet to find sites that offer particular item or service that they are searching for. Through this update, they can find websites that are reliable and avoid those that brings no relevant content to what they’re looking for or known to be spammy.
The thing is, this update has made many small enterprises to be affected negatively to the point that it pushes them out of the game. The main reason for this is that, majority of these small businesses are depending on SEO techniques in efforts of keeping up with more established companies. With this update, not just that they’re penalized for making use of SEO techniques but they’re given with low priority on search results.
